Great walk on July 10, all the way up to the tennis courts in Riverside Park, then all the way down to the Financial District, and an Adrienne's pizza lunch. Some of us then finished the route walking back to Penn Station.
Sadly, without Roberta, there are no pictures to post. I got one or two of us with my camera, but, lo-tekkie that I am, the pictures are still in my throw-away Kodak. When that role is finally done, someone will have to teach me how to get all 27 or so pictures published on this blog.
The Chicago walk is just 3 1/2 weeks away. Michigan is just a week later. I think that we should plan a walk for the weekend after I return from Chicago, just so we can be walking at the same time Jen is doing her first 3-Day in Michigan.
Meanwhile, still looking for more walkers for an NYC walk on Sunday, July 18.

Happy 4th of July!
Hello fellow walkers!
Here I am in the Sunshine State getting ready for our 20 mile training walk on the 10th!
It's not the heat ... it's the humidity that gets to a whiney walker here ... but I have no one to complain to ... so ... I don't complain!
Yesterday I bought a cooling bandana called "frogg toggs-chilly dana" and it seemed to work! I'll show y'all on the 10th.
Hope you're having a good 4th of July

I'm NOT whining!
(Taken on my walk yesterday.)
Hello to Burt and his "Babes!"
I just read Kaitlin's and Burt's posts.
I want you to know that I NEVER whine ... I simply state facts! (by the way Burt, my blisters are just about gone! How much longer to the station?)
I look forward to seeing you on the 10th, I will have just returned from a 1 week visit with Mom in Sunny Southern Florida ... so maybe I'll be just fine with the heat!
Roberta
ps--I thought I had lost my camera. Don't worry ... I found it. I'll be set to take pictures on our next "ramble"

July 10 Hudson River Ramble
We'll meet at our usual Penn Station meeting place - in front of TGI Fridays on the Amtrak level, near the 33rd Street and 8th Avenue exit. West along 34th Street to the Hudson, then up along the river to the tennis courts in Riverside Park. Then all the way down to the Battery, and lunch at Adrienne's (mmmmm, pizza!!). Then back to Penn. Total for those who do it all is 20 miles. But, naturally, lots of places to jump out. Lots of bathrooms, and places to buy water and/or Gatorade. Hope to see a bunch of you there!! Roberta, it's another chance to take a picture by the "eyes" sculpture!!!

the best way to spend a saturday...
I was just sitting here at work thinking about our walk on Saturday. I know I say it every time I walk with you guys, but I feel so lucky to have found this group. As a first time walker, I'm so inspired by all of your journeys, both 3-Day related and not! Every time I walk with you all, I'm relieved to escape my bubble of life and learn from all of you. Whether it's cooking tips from Liz, NY history from Burt, or Yankees stats from Roberta...I always manage to take away something wonderful. So thank you. See you on the 10th!!
The June 19 Harbor-to-Harbor Walk
Great pictures, Roberta. And even greater commentary. I did not notice the "LIVE" sign when we passed it. Trust Roberta and her ready camera to capture it. And, as you said, it is yet another reminder of why we do this. Yes it was hot. Yes our feet were tired and sore when we were done (although no one whined - because we all know that whining causes blisters). But I remember thinking last year during Day 3 in Chicago, when it was 97 degrees and humid, with no shade and not a breath of a breeze, that every woman undergoing chemo would have given anything to be there with us instead. What we do is a powerful re-affirmation of life. We raise money and we raise consciousness. And doing all these training walks with you makes it that much more wonderful. I'm going to post a City walk for July 10. I hope a bunch of you can join me.

Training Walk--June 19th--Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington--18 miles
We started in the parking lot of the Cold Spring Harbor railroad station. Some of us got a little lost ... but we took our first steps around 8:30ish. This first shot is of Cold Spring Harbor. Beautiful!
We walked on into Huntington ... taking a left and walking toward the harbor.
There was no problem finding someone to take a picture of Burt and his Babes.
We walked through lovely neighborhoods ... and all decided we wouldn't turn down any of the beautiful homes we saw!
We walked back on New York Avenue to Main Street for PIZZA!
This was just off Main Street and I had to take a picture ...
It's important to remember why we walk ... why my feet hurt as I write this ... why we put up with the heat ... and the traffic ... and soon we will put up with 3 days and 60 miles and tents and trucks and porta potties ...
We walk so we and everyone we love will live a life that is free of breast cancer.
Everyone deserves a lifetime!
